Dr. Parra treats all of his patients as he would insist that his wife would be treated. He is highly regarded both for his professional expertise as well as for his considerate and kind approach to patient treatment. He believes in honesty and keeping his patients up to date as to what is going on throughout every phase of their cancer journey. Dr. Parra’s commitment to excellence has not gone unnoticed: he has been featured in '5280 Magazine' as one of the 'Top Docs in Denver.
Dr. Parra founded Colorado Hematology-Oncology in 1993 after practicing for two years in the south area of Denver. Committed to his profession as well as to his patients, he serves on the American Cancer Society and Quality of Life Care advisory boards; holds positions on several medical staffs; and is a frequent speaker before professional and community groups on trends in cancer care.
Dr. Parra earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Microbiology with a Minor in Toxicology from the University of California, San Jose, California. He completed his Doctor of Medicine at the Creighton University School of Medicine, Omaha, Nebraska which is also where he met his wife who was a practicing nurse at the time. For his Internship and Medical Residency in Internal Medicine, he trained at the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He completed his Fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, Colorado. He sees patients with all types of cancers; however, he has a special interest and expertise in treating patients with Malignant Melanoma.
Dr. Parra is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine In Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. He is actively involved in the latest cancer breakthroughs and is an active member of the Colorado Cancer Research Program which is affiliated with Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine, Division of Oncology, University of Colorado School of Medicine.
Away from the office, Dr. Parra spends as much time as possible with his wife and three children. You’ll frequently see the entire Parra family running together, especially during community charity runs. On the sidelines, you’ll find Dr. Parra and his wife cheering their children during their football, competitive soccer, and swimming events. His current personal hobbies include fencing, tennis and racquetball. The Parra family is also actively involved in their church.
